Goals
The Quantum Simulation Conference (QSim) is an annual research conference on all aspects of quantum simulation, broadly construed. The conference covers both theory and experiment and aims to present perspectives from a broad range of disciplines. Its goals are to showcase the previous year’s most impactful results related to quantum simulation, to stimulate research advances in quantum simulation, and to support the quantum simulation research community.
Format
QSim typically takes place for one week (Monday through Friday) in the late summer. It features both invited and contributed talks, which are selected by the program committee (PC). The lengths of talks and distribution of invited vs. contributed talks should be determined by the steering committee (SC) in consultation with the PC, with invited talks representing no more than half of the program. QSim does not have published proceedings. Presentations are typically recorded and made publicly available with the speakers’ permission.
The conference also includes poster session(s). It may include a panel discussion on the future of quantum simulation and other sessions as recommended by the SC. When possible, QSim may be preceded by a summer school on selected topics in quantum simulation.
Steering committee
The SC is responsible for guiding the long-term course of the conference and maintaining high standards for scientific content and organization. In particular, the SC selects the venue, local organizer, and PC chair for the next conference. The SC has six members who serve three-year terms. It includes the chairs of the local organizing committees (OCs) of the previous, current, and subsequent QSim events, with the current OC chair also serving as the SC chair. The other SC members are selected by the SC, with one new member selected each year, immediately following the conference (or as needed).
Program committee
The PC is led by a chair, assisted by a co-chair who is typically the previous year’s PC chair. The PC chairs select the remainder of the PC, whose expertise should represent the diverse topics in the scope of QSim. The PC selects the invited and contributed talks and posters. Posters will typically be accepted unless they are out of scope or clearly wrong.
PC and SC members cannot be invited speakers. They may submit papers to and present papers at the conference, but PC members must declare a conflict of interest on their own submissions so they are excluded from the PC’s discussion of those papers. Discussion of papers for which the PC chair had a conflict of interest should be managed by the co-chair, and vice versa. Submissions for contributed talks are expected to be highly competitive. Talks should be reviewed on the basis of scientific excellence and should be selected with the goal of creating a balanced program of interest to a broad range of QSim attendees.
