Location Overview

The QSim conference is at The University of Rhode Island (URI) in the CBLS building auditorium at 120 Flagg Rd, Kingston, RI 02881. The summer school is at URI’s College of Pharmacy in Room 170 at 7 Greenhouse Rd, Kingston, RI 02881.

URI is minutes from the beach, 30 miles south of Providence, 75 miles from Boston, 160 miles from NYC, with Newport just across the bay.

The Kingston Amtrak Station is right down the road from campus, T.F. Green Airport only 20 minutes away. For your Rhode Island destinations, RIPTA runs dozens of buses from campus every day.

The time from Providence to the Kingston Amtrak Station is about 20 Minutes and from Boston(South Station) to Kingston is 1 hour approximately.

There are also public bus transportation services provided by RIPTA Bus services (Rhode Island Public Transit Authority).

Some train stations close to the University of Rhode Island that are serviced by the RIPTA buses include: Kingston Railroad Station, Wickford Junction Railroad Station. Things to do in the Area

There are many wonderful tourist attractions and fun activities to do in the area. Some of these attractions and activities are listed below:

The Preservation Society of Newport County has a collection of incredible architectural and historical landmarks title the Newport Mansions. Some of these Newport Mansions include: The Breakers, Marble House, Rosecliff etc. You are welcome to plan a trip to sight-see any of these historical architectural feats.

Newport has a wonderful Downtown area which is home to a lot of has a lot of great restaurants, cafes, farmers markets etc. The major street in the Newport downtown area is Thames street which has a lot of historic buildings and is a great place to enjoy the Newport communal nature.

The Narragansett Bay campus of the University of Rhode Island houses the University’s Coastal Institute on Narragansett Bay, which features an interactive coastal environment exhibit and conference center. This 153-acre campus is home to URI’s highly acclaimed Graduate School of Oceanography, one of the top five oceanographic institutions in the country. There is a public bus (Route 64) that connects the URI Kingston campus (the stop is at the Memorial Union) with the URI Bay Campus and Newport. The schedule is here:

There is a huge body of water close to the University of Rhode Island. Therefore, if you are an enthusiast for water-based activities, you can engage in several of such water activities such as sailing, fishing, kayaking, ferry rides etc. Also, you can check some activities like Golf, Oyster Farming and many more here.
